Kideos features popular videos for children in a kid-friendly interface and a safe environment. All of the videos featured on Kideos have been vetted and approved by a Video Advisory Council comprised of parents and educators who screen content before it appears on the site.
Just in time for summer reading, Kideos has launched the Speakaboos channel, which introduces a catalog of classics, such as "Oh Susanna" and "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star."
Each video storybook and music video is animated, narrated, and subtitled so children can easily read and sing along with their favorite celebrities such as Kevin Bacon, Kelly Ripa and Nick Cannon.
Every week the Speakaboos will introduce a new video to our Kideos library which currently includes:
It’s not easy being a green ogre, especially a famous, domesticated one. Instead of scaring villagers away, Shrek now autographs their pitchforks. So when Rumpletstiltskin offers to return him to his old life for one day, Shrek jumps at the chance. It doesn’t take long for Shrek to realize that he’s not on a pleasant stroll down memory lane. Rumplestiltskin tricked him into signing a contract that turns Far Far Away into a terrible place where ogres have been hunted to near extinction and his friends and beloved Fiona don’t know him. Will Shrek be able to save all that he loves or is this fairy tale over? These and other burning questions will be answered when Shrek hits theaters and IMAX 3-D on May 21st.
The Great Dane makes the jump from comic strip to big screen and finds himself living in The O.C., a dog-eat-dog world where even the local dog parks have cliques. The “Duke” does his best to fit in, as any teenager would. From the talking animals to lots of good, canine fun, Marmaduke will be a real treat for little dog-lovers. Opening June 4th.
Parents will go for the nostalgia; kids will go for the cool kung fu moves and good triumphing over the bad. In this remake of the 1984 film, a boy named Dre moves with his mom to China. The 11-year-old newcomer gets picked on by bullies, so the school janitor comes to his rescue—by teaching him kung fu. Will Smith’s son Jaden plays the next-generation karate kid. The Kid kicks its way into theaters on June 11th.
Is it game over for Buzz, Woody and their toy-box buddies? As their owner, Andy, heads off to college, Buzz and the others set out for a day-care center. There, they meet many new toys, including Trixie the video game-loving triceratops and a hedgehog named Mr. Pricklepants. The kids are nothing like Andy—they don’t play nice and they don’t take care of the toys. So the toys band together to plan the Great Escape. See this Great Adventure in 3-D when it buzzes into theaters on June 18th.
The hero of this children’s fantasy film by M. Knight Shyamalan is a boy named Aang. He is an avatar, or master of all four elements, charged with restoring peace to the four nations (Fire, Earth, Water and Air). Naturally, a villain stands in his way—the evil Fire Lord. Aang must defeat this very bad dude in order to free the elements’ people from his tyrannical rule. Arriving in theaters on July 2nd.
In this 3-D animated adventure, super villain Gru schemes to shrink and steal the moon. But before he gets his chance, three young girls show up in his life, and the ensuing business of taking care of them puts his plans of moon ownership on hold. In theaters on July 9th.
Ramona Quimby makes her big-screen debut in this tale of sibling rivalry, based on the Beverly Cleary books. Older sibs will relate to Beezus; Ramona throws herself into annoying her big sister in as many ways as possible. You’ll laugh and maybe even cry at this family film, in theaters on July 23rd.
Based on a scene in Disney’s Fantasia, this live-action tale quickly veers away from its classic symphonic origins as the Sorcerer prepares for a supernatural war. The movie features amazing special effects and giant explosions; be sure to learn more about the film before taking your little wizards. The Sorcerer sweeps into theaters on July 16th.
The tech world is abuzz with minute-by-minute reviews of the iPad, cataloging everything from what it can and can’t do to its behavior in a blender (we did not make this up), but most of the technoratti can agree on one thing—the iPad is cool.
Sure, the new gadget isn’t perfect, but not to worry—techie geniuses have been up since its release, working through the kinks and quirks. Nothing left to do but the fun stuff; grab your kids and try out some of the latest entertainment apps, adapted or created for the iPad.
Watch kid-friendly, parent-approved videos on the go and on the iPad’s larger screen. A few highlights: Jake Gyllenhaal wears octopus on head; Adam Sandler pays tribute to Elmo’s cleanliness; babies roller skate and dance to Beyonce.
Hearing pitch-by-pitch audio? Catching in-game video highlights? Keeping up with your favorite teams in real time on Game Day? $14.99. Getting on-the-go game info with your favorite sports fan? Priceless.
With 30 wacky creatures divided into five slideable parts and 20 different backgrounds, kids get to create all sorts of silly scenes and combinations. The iPad’s large screen makes this game more accessible to younger iPadders.
If Picasso lived in the modern day, the iPad would be his canvas. Young artists take their pick from paintbrushes, 60 colored pencils, 70 crayon colors and four types of sprinkles.
This popular iPhone app really comes together on the iPad: early users report that the puzzle was made for the bigger screen. Players can download a new puzzle daily, complete with photos and fun facts.
Patient, detail-oriented kids will light up for this app, which allows users to create individual works of art. Fidgeters will be turned off by this time-consuming activity.
Now Playing on Kideos: Fun and Functional New Features
Kideos is ready for its close-up! We have been tinkering behind the scenes to make our site even more kid-friendly and parent-approved (like Kix cereal, minus the milk and with much more color and flavor). As parents, we know that family life can seem like one long “To Do” list or worse the “Shoulda Done” list.
That’s why we’ve retrofitted Kideos with lots of handy options and customizable settings. Now even the most hands-on parents (we’re not naming names) will be able to sit back and relax—at least until the Bootylicious Baby stops dancing or the Evian Roller Babies bring the funk:
So what’s changed? In addition to being identified by age group, videos are arranged according to starring subjects. Does your little one still love Elmo? Well, we have added a bunch of new channels including an Elmo Channel. Parents everywhere, rejoice!
Evian Roller Babies more his speed? The Babies Channel will be your chosen destination. Does your pup love dogs? Then sniff out the Kideos Dog Channel for lots of tail-wagging fun.
We’ve made it our business to stock the site with anything and everything that has the potential to make children smile, laugh, dance or even sing along. Then we kicked it up a notch, tracking down tons of fun facts and pop culture trivia about featured characters, shows, animals—pretty much anything under the sun.
Sure, all this applies to our kid-friendly appeal but you may be wondering about that parent-approved part. We’ve saved the best for last: The new, improved Kideos allows parents to set the site by child’s age, settings that will remain locked and loaded for the whole month. Another feature enables you to create a Playlist so that you have easy access to your kids’ favorite, and your favored, videos.
Here at Kideos, we’d like to think that we’ve made the lives of fellow parents a bit easier, but don’t just take our word for it—see for yourself.
New year, same old videos—only the best of the best, really. Evian Babies, the feline flusher and Gummy Bear have become classics after several months on the Kideos Top 10 List. We know it’s a bit early to make a prediction, but judging from January’s list twenty-ten may finally be the year that silly kids, unusual animal antics and a medley of dancing characters finally get their due. Wait, something about that sounds suspiciously familiar… right. These topics are perennial favorites for kids and adults alike.
1. Evian Babies
These rollerskating babies have captured the imagination of parents and kids.
Top 10 Children's Videos of 2009: Dancing “Single Babies,” flushing felines and Muppets, Muppets—and more Muppets are just a few of the videos that got kids moving and grooving, and laughing and smiling, this year. Babies and animals just can’t be beat among kids, as long as they are dancing or doing something silly or unexpected. Goodnight Moon and Dr. Seuss’s ABC made the list, proving that even old favorites can thrill a new generation. As 2009 comes to a close, this is one of the Top 10 lists you won’t want to miss. Think of it as a holiday gift, from our family to yours.
We have much to look forward to in 2010, including future Top 10 Kids Videos lists starring animals, babies, and yes, Muppets. Have a happy and healthy New Year!
2. Goodnight Moon This classic story refuses to be put to bed—but may help your child sleep. This reading continues to move up the list. http://www.kideos.com/content/goodnight-moon
3. Roll Call – Muppet Treasure Island A shaggy group of colorful characters? Fans were quick to jump onboard.
9. Gummy Bear We’ll bet you a handful of gummy bears that you can’t watch this moonwalking, grass-skirt-shaking bear without cracking a smile. http://www.kideos.com/content/gummy-bear
10. The Muppets Sing Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody
In this version of the classic, Animal sings and then starts calling for “Mama… Mama?!” We don’t want to say it’s better than the original, just monstrously entertaining.
We are all creatures of habit, and kids are no exception. The November winners include four favorites from October, with the toilet-flushing feline rising to the top once again. Sure, Planet 51 and Fantastic Mr. Fox feature eye-popping CGI animation and characters voiced by the likes of George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Jessica Biel and Jason Schwartzman, but that pales in comparison to singing kittens, head-banging Muppets and Adam Sandler’s incredible rhyming skills. This month’s Top 10 list proves once again that kids get a kick out of animals and other kids in silly or unexpected situations. In addition, we’ve started to suspect that Sesame Street’s two-month stint on the list might have something to do with one red monster in particular—La, la, la, la! We hope you enjoy the most popular videos of November as much as we did. In the meantime, we will be eagerly tabulating the numbers to see what December’s list will look like. Until then, to borrow from our singing kittens—Joy, joy, joy! 1. Cat Flushing A Toilet – Music Video The reigning champ is back. We’re waiting for the sequel: Cat Cleaning a Toilet. Now, that’s getting entertainment to work for you. http://www.kideos.com/content/cat-flushing-toilet-music-video 2. Evian Roller Babies This video will have you drinking Evian by the gallon and putting on a pair of roller skates. It’s cute and cool all rolled into one. http://www.kideos.com/content/evian-roller-babies
3. Kitties Singing Joy Joy Joy It’s hard to resist dancing, singing, drumming kittens. Take a look—you’ll see what we mean. http://www.kideos.com/content/kitties-singing-joy-joy-joy 4. Gummy Bear This sweet bear danced and sang its way up two spots, from No. 6 last month. Watch closely for the moonwalk and sing along to “Cho Ka Ka O.” http://www.kideos.com/content/gummy-bear 5. Little Critter - Just Me and My Dad Mercer Mayer’s book comes alive in this delightful short. Little Critter and his dad go camping in this adventure, and we get to tag along. http://www.kideos.com/content/little-critter-just-me-and-my-dad-part-1 6. Baby Dancing to Beyonce – All the Single Babies Even though the singing kittens took its No. 3 spot, this video is still bootylicious. http://www.kideos.com/content/baby-dancing-beyonce-all-single-babies 7. Adam Sandler on Sesame Street - A Song About Elmo We were delighted to learn that Elmo likes to play and yellmo and ring his bellmo—and especially that he doesn’t smellmo. And we have to agree with Elmo: The song is “incredibelmo!” http://www.kideos.com/content/sesame-street-song-about-elmo 8. Barney – I Love You Barney sings his all-time classic. Does it ever get old? Please don’t answer that.
October proved once again to us that kids love videos of animals and other kids—especially when they’re acting silly or doing the unexpected. As popular as Disney, Dora, Yo Gabba Gabba and all our favorite shows are, nothing beats a Cat Flushing A Toilet or a dog that could perform with the Beastie Boys! And who can resist a baby bouncing around to Beyonce’s chart-topping single-ladies shout-out? For what it’s worth, my favorite was the trailer of “Where the Wild Things Are.” The October winners demonstrate that kids have a soft spot for videos that are more sweet than silly. Remember to tune in next month, when we will feature November’s top 10. Dancing turkeys? Pie eating contests? Grandpa snoring in front of the Thanksgiving game? The anticipation is killing us! 1. Cat Flushing A Toilet – Music Video Prepare to be sucked in by this music video. After watching this, you’ll want to give the furry little flushers a big round of a-PAWS. http://www.kideos.com/content/cat-flushing-toilet-music-video 2. Basset Hound Beat Box This video will be music to your ears -- even if they’re not long and brown. Break it down, buh-buh-basset hound! (Wish my puppy could do this.) http://www.kideos.com/content/basset-hound-beat-box 3. Baby Dancing to Beyonce – All the Single Babies This little one loves dancing to Beyonce’s “Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)” song. So adorable – it’s bootylicious in a diaper. http://www.kideos.com/content/baby-dancing-beyonce-all-single-babies 4. Funny Animals #2 in Widescreen One of the cats looks like ours, so this never fails to get my son laughing hysterically. There’s an animal for everyone here. http://www.kideos.com/content/funny-animals-2-widescreen
5. Sesame Street: Mrs. Obama Plants Garden First Lady Michelle Obama plants vegetable seeds on Sesame Street. And she shares screen time with two of our daughter’s favorites -- Big Bird and Elmo. http://www.kideos.com/content/sesame-street-mrs-obama-plants-garden 6. Gummy Bear The singing gummy bear is back, with a new music video! If this little bear’s moves don’t make you melt, then its chocolate coating might. http://www.kideos.com/content/gummy-bear 7. Goodnight Moon One of my very favorite bedtime stories. I have read this to my son for many years. He knows it by heart now. http://www.kideos.com/content/goodnight-moon 8. Bubblefish A cute, short video that will make you chuckle; or a cautionary tale that highlights the importance of picking on someone your own size. You be the judge. http://www.kideos.com/content/bubblefish 9. Dog Goes Crazy Watching Animal Planet This silly pup gets jumpy when he sees the other dogs on TV. So funny! Do you think someone should tell him they can’t see or hear him? Nah. http://www.kideos.com/content/dog-goes-crazy-watching-animal-planet 10. Happy Birthday This is the cutest rendition we’ve ever heard. Sing it fellas! http://www.kideos.com/content/happy-birthday
